Weekend Workshops

In our weekend ceramics class we will learn about classic hand-building techniques, pottery wheel technique and methods of 3D design and sculpture.  We’ll learn basics like pinching, coiling, and slab construction that form the foundations of all hand-built pottery. Students will produce realistic, functional and abstract projects, such as cups, bowls and figures. In addition to hand-building, students will get the chance to use our pottery wheels. They will explore the various ways artists manipulate clay using the pottery wheel to make functional items. We will learn all the techniques involved with throwing on real wheels, beginning with wedging, centering and molding different types of clay into symmetrical forms. Through repeated practice, they'll learn to shape the clay as the wheel spins, gaining a feel for the proper thickness.

Students will also learn about 3D spatial design and creation through the study of a wide variety of artists and mediums. In this class, we will consider the use of organic, modern, realistic, industrial, and abstract forms and apply different textures before the finished work is fired in our kiln. We'll also explore a variety of glazing techniques such as painting, dipping, staining and more!

*Note: Weekend classes are offered on a single class or multi-class basis.  With that said, projects will be able to be completed in one class period, but students who are taking multiple classes will be able to work on projects over the course of their time in the studio.  Please keep this in mind when booking your class.
Classes will be offered the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month from 1pm-3pm.
